With the year drawing to a close, I can't help but reflect on the last year. There is no doubt that the past year has definitely been one of the most challenging in recent history. While it can be easy to get caught up in what didn't go according to plan, I'm taking time to focus on the good that the year brought.
The last year challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and get creative when it came to serving clients. Those moments have helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I was lucky enough to hit some pretty big business milestones in 2020.
Scroll below to see some of my most significant achievements and proudest moments from the last year.
100 Best Websites For Writers in 2020
The year started off on a high when I got an email from The Write Life that The Quiet Type made their 2020 list of 100 Best Websites for Writers.
Getting on the list was one of my biggest goals for the year and I’m thrilled to have been included. I owe that accomplishment to the amazing readers and subscribers that took the time to nominate The Quiet Type.
Thank you for your support!

Featured by Authority Magazine & Thrive Global
I was invited by Authority Magazine and Thrive Global to participate in two interview series at the start of the year.
In January, my interview for “From Avocation to Vocation: How I Turned My Hobby Into a Career” went live on Authority Magazine's site. It was later republished on Thrive Global. It was so fun to share how I got started as a freelance writer, what I’ve learned along the way, and my plans for the future!
The second interview series I was invited to participate in focused on strategies female entrepreneurs use to improve their wellbeing and thrive both personally and professionally. This interview was a really thought-provoking interview to take part in! It really made me examine my habits, how I react to stress, and reflect on the things that have brought me joy since I started my journey as a freelance writer.
Became a Contributing Writer at Freelancer FAQs
I've been a big fan of Elna Cain since I first started thinking about becoming a freelance writer. Her blog has continued to be one of my go-to resources now that I've been freelancing for years.
When Elna reached out to me about becoming a contributing writer to Freelancer FAQs, I was so surprised and delighted! And, of course, I said yes! In June, I contributed my first three guest posts to Freelancer FAQs.

Made My Podcast Debut
Remember how I said I had to get out of my comfort zone in 2020? Well, that's often easier said than done! I'm an introvert in every sense of the word, but I've come to realize that a few minutes of discomfort is often worth the outcome. So, even though it was terrifying, I made my podcast debut this year. And guess what? I had a great time and even ended up doing two more episodes for the same show.

Featured Contributor to CEO Blog Nation
I am a lover of podcasts and books, so I was super excited to be invited by CEO Blog Nation to share my thoughts on both topics earlier this year.
The first was a roundup of business podcasts, where I recommended one of my OG favorites, The Goal Digger Podcast. The next was a roundup of the best business books, where I discussed what I loved about Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Wrote More Than 10 Million Words in 2020
My nerdiness is really showing with this one, but hey — I am who I am!
Grammarly has this cool feature where it tells you the number of words you've written each week and over time. I might be one of the few people who see it as a personal challenge, but it helps keep me motived to write. It totally paid off, too.
In 2020, I more than doubled the number of words I wrote the year before, surpassing 10M words! My grand total for the year (give or take a few words) was 10,706,260 words.
That’s a lot of writing, my friends!
2020 was far from normal but I have a lot to be grateful for — and I'm not just talking about the highlights listed above. I'm also talking about YOU, the readers of The Quiet Type.
Whether this is your first time reading an article here (welcome!) or you've been following along for a while, I appreciate that you're here. Your support means the world to me, and I'm thankful to play even a small part in your freelance journey.
Cheers to a brand new year!
